Niece - 8" x 8" layout

Another 8" x 8" layout using the Prima A4 Paper stack (Melody). There are so many lovely papers in this pack and you get loads. This is another layout featuring my Niece - see yesterday's posting for an earlier photograph.I used 4 different papers from this pack - layering one lighter pink onto a darker shade background. The polka dot paper was scalloped using a template from The Crafter's Workshop and the journaling blurb is from The Crafter's Workshop as well. These templates are well used and well worth the money.

The sentiment in the right bottom corner is a chipboard flower button, covered in paper and a Delish Designs rub-on added. The bunting is Tando Creative and I just covered it with paper, inked the edges and added patterned papers on top. I then added the words (small chipboard stickers).

Please leave a comment to say you have passed by this way and I will enter your name into the blog candy draw (if you qualify - see rules on left). Thanks.

Monday, 30 May 2011

I have been busy this morning creating 2 layouts for a course for tomorrow. This is one of them. I decided to do this one in black and white to compliment the photograph, which was taken over 30 years ago. It is of my Niece, who lives in Canada. It is an 8" x 8" layout, so there isn't much room for many embellishments. I used Delish Designs Patterned paper from the Peppercorn Collection. The rub-on sentiment (Unforgettable), the Menu Card and the 'Sweet Brad' is from this collection also. I think this range is a very classic design, which never dates and is suitable for all manner of layouts. The black flower is cut using the Cricut - just the same shape cut 3 times in different sizes then layered up.

I have another layout of her in the same 8" x 8" size, which I will post tomorrow. Please leave a comment to say that you have visited. If you qualify for the blog candy draw, I will enter your name. Please read the rules on the left of the page to ensure that you leave your comment correctly. Thank you and good luck!

Cards using chipboard book plates

Joanne made these cards using Tando Creative chipboard small bookplates. She used a couple of techniques to cover them. The 'Thinking of you' card is covered using patterned papers from Glitz Design (Hoopla) and the mini bookplate is covered using glitter and a couple of pearls to add some 'bling'.

The 'On your Wedding Day' card is covered using Glitz Design patterned papers and Joanne has covered the mini bookplate on this card with a silver ink to give a metallic look. She has added a couple of gems and two little Tando chipboard birds. She has also added some Bazzill Tulle Ribbon in white (just behind the sentiment).

Thank you for stopping by today. Please leave a comment and if you qualify (rules on the left of the page) I will enter your name into the Blog Candy draw. Good Luck!

My New Toy (oops I mean Craft Tool)

I thought I would show you what I have recently bought. It's a 'We R Memory Keepers' Sew Easy stitch piercer. I am not one to be taken in by 'new gadgets' but I love sewing on pages - either machine or hand-sewing. I am not much good at getting straight lines when I sew, so when I saw this little gadget I had to get one.

The pack I received includes a Sew Easy Stitch Piercer Tool, with various stitch piercer heads that are interchangeable. I can choose from Burst Stitch, Cross Stitch, Scallop Stitch and a Straight Stitch. There's also a piercing mat, a needle and 4 cards of floss (embroidery thread to us non-Americans).

I tried it out on Tuesday at the scrapbook crop and was suitably impressed with the first attempts I made. I still have problems keeping straight lines (even following pencil lines) but after a few tries, I think I'm liking this little toy (oops I mean craft tool).

Have you come across this gadget yet? Do you own one? What gadget (or craft item) would you not be able to live without? Leave a comment and let me know and I will enter your name into the Blog Candy draw (that's if you qualify - rules on the left of this page). Thanks for stopping by.

Me & my brother

Another layout I have created using the A4 paper stack from Prima called Melody. I said yesterday that you don't need to use 12" x 12" patterned papers for layouts and here is another one to prove it!The flowers are from Prima Essentials 10 range (Melody to match the papers). The flocked brown alphabet stickers are from Delish Designs. The sparkle chipboard and brads are from the Crate Paper range - Brook Collection.

One easy way to use smaller paper sizes is to cut it into squares as I have done in this layout. I used Brown cardstock for the base, then layered it with Bazzill Whirlpool cardstock (I cut this down to 11.5" x 11.5"). I cut the squares to 5.5." x 5.5." and layered them on top of the Whirlpool cardstock. I stuck the flocked brown alphabet stickers onto a plain piece of paper from the stack (one I used in yesterday's layout), cut around the word 'brother' then matted this onto a piece of brown cardstock and cut around it again. This was attached to the layout using double-sided foam tape (to give dimension). The heart is chipboard and I covered this with another piece of plainer paper from the stack and added the word 'me' from the flocked sticker pack. The words '& my' were printed onto Safmat (one of my favourite products) and adhered to the heart.

The sentiment at the bottom right of the layout is taken from a quote I found on the internet and reads "A brother shares childhood memories & grown up dreams" - the author is unknown.

Thank you for popping by and I hope over the next few weeks you will get some inspiration to do your layouts using different size patterned papers. The Design Team will be using 6" x 6" patterned papers this month - so watch this space to see what they come up with.

If you leave a comment on this post today and you qualify (rules on the left) I will enter your name into the free BLOG CANDY draw. Best of luck!

Alernatives to 12" x 12" patterned papers

This is one of my layouts using one of the Prima A4 stacks called Melody. The pad has 24 patterned papers/2 pieces per design (48 pieces in all) and has plain as well as patterned papers that match perfectly.
I used one plain and one patterned sheet of paper from the stack and used a corner punch to round the edges as it gives a softer feel to the layout. The co-ordinating paper flowers are from Prima too and are the Essentials 10 floral embellishment pack that matches the papers beautifully.

The sparkle chipboard is from Crate Paper (Brook Collection) as well as the Art brads that I used for some of the flower centres. The other flowers have button centres (a freebie from a magazine). I attached some Bazzill 'Just the Edge' to the bottom of the photograph. The title 'Family' is a rub-on from a pack I had for a while (Delish Designs), as is the black edging around the plain piece of paper.

I just wanted to show that you can use other paper sizes other than 12" x 12" patterned papers to create scrapbook pages. Obviously, you still need the 12" x 12" cardstock as a base but any other paper size can make lovely layouts. The design team have been given that task this month and will be designing using 6" x 6" paper! Watch this space!

Leave a comment today, on this post and if you qualify I will enter your name into the draw for the BLOG CANDY. Best of luck and thanks for stopping by.

'Sweet' Layout

Joanne created this sweet layout using patterned papers from the Dovecraft 'Sugar & Spice' range. The layout is quite simple but as the papers already have a lovely border, there is not much more you can add - especially as it is an 8" x 8" layout. The printed words (sweet, exuberant, eccentric, delightful) are taken from one of the patterned papers. Joanne used a Tando Creative chipboard small bookplate and covered it using ink and it gives it a lovely metallic look.

Please leave a comment to say you have visited. If you qualify for the draw - I will enter your name in for today. Thanks.

4186 MILES

I just had to do this layout once I saw Lesley Oman's version in this month's Scrapbook Magazine (Issue55, page 21).The version in the magazine was very colourful but I decided to do a more subdued layout as I wanted the photograph to be the main element that jumped out when you looked at it. I used MME 'Life Stories' patterned papers to achieve an outdoorsy look. The photo was taken over 5 years ago in Canada, against the wonderful backdrop of the Rockie Mountains. It isn't a 'posed' photograph but one that was taken 'unawares'.

I loved how Lesley's layout told the story of her and her friend being apart for a year and it made me realise that I haven't actually seen my sister since this photograph was taken. 5 years is a very long time not to see someone! I followed the layout to the letter but by adding my own paper choices, photo and elements have made it my own. It has inspired me to do more layouts of this trip as I had good intentions when I returned to scrap them all but they are still laying in the 8" x 8" album I bought. Ironically, Canada is the place that 'I found' scrapbooking, so it seems a fitting tribute that I should finish what I started. This is the start (apart from a couple of simple attempts I made).

Do you have a story to tell about loved ones that you haven't seen or heard from for a long time? Share it with us here. Thanks for stopping by.

Tulle Ribbon Cards

How delicious do these look! Jaqi has made this delectable duo using the Crate Paper 'Portrait' Collection patterned papers, this time 'Pearls'. One side of the gorgeous paper is a lovely laced effect and the other is this delightful spot design. The tulle ribbon is from Bazzill and the colours used are Raven (black) and Bazzill White. The tulle gives a lovely soft finish to these cards and makes them look very expensive (when in fact the tulle is only 26p per yard). Jaqi has added her own stamps and will give you further instructions on how she made them if you go and visit her blog

From a Boy to a Man

Another vintage creation from Jaqi - this time of her Grandfather, depicting photo's of him as a boy, then a man - hence the title! The base patterned paper is Vintage Lace from the very popular Crate Paper 'Portrait' Collection that the Design Team have been showcasing for the past few weeks. As anyone following this blog will know that the DT have used these papers for a multitude of projects and the patterned papers work just as well with 'modern' photographs as it does with vintage.

Jaqi has also used the 'Accent Cuts' sheet that co-ordinates with this range. For further details on how Jaqi put this altogether, just visit her blog here

Please leave a comment to let us know you have visited. As these photographs are Jaqi's family, please be kind and do not copy them. Thank you.

Jaqi has used the beautiful 'Honeymoon' patterned paper from Crate Paper 'Portrait' Collection for this lovely vintage layout. The Bazzill Dotted Swiss 'Honey' Cardstock has also been added and lends itself beautifully to compliment the paper.

The 'Family' sticker is from the Crate Paper 'Phrases - designer & title stickers' that co-ordinate with the patterned papers beautifully. To get further details on this layout pop over into Jaqi's blog

My 'shop' @ the MAX Papercraft Show

The DT have been so busy creating gorgeous things that I have not had time to post these photo's taken last Sunday at the papercraft show in Sunderland. As you probably know, I am only an on-line shop so the chance to do the shows, set out my stall, so to speak and meet lovely new (and regular) customers is great. The best part of this job (apart from the teaching courses and this blog etc., etc.,). All of it is great!

I have tried to give a panorama of the space I use at this show. I always display loads of scrapbooking layouts as well as cards (made by Joanne of course!).

Anyhow, come back soon as I have an announcement to make (at the weekend) on what the next BLOG CANDY giveaway will be! Thanks for popping in to see what we are up to. Please leave a comment.

Seaton Delaval Hall

This is the second layout I have made from the Scrapaholix Kit for May. As I said yesterday, the patterned papers are from Scribble Scrabble and the technique this month was using Stickles.I used this photograph of Kate outside Seaton Delaval Hall - looking like she lived there! I used Stickles on the corners of the grey cardstock and on the butterfly. Again, I used American Craft's Thickers from last months kit. These Thickers are great value for money as I must have done about 6 or 7 layouts now using the same packet.

The flowers are from Prima e.line (Vintage) and are lovely just left plain or used with the stickles to glitter them. Thank you for stopping by. Please leave a comment to say you have visited.

Tuesday, 10 May 2011

This is the first of two layouts I have created using the Scrapaholix Kit for May. The patterned papers are from Scribble Scrabble. The technique this month is Stickles.I used a sketch from Page Maps (May 2011) for this layout as I was pushed for time and had to get two layouts completed pretty quickly. The thing about using sketches is that it takes away 'the thinking about it' time that eats into your precious crafting time. I found this photo of Kate and just loved how the papers and picture just gelled together. I used some buttons and embroidery thread from my own stash to add some dimension and the title is from the American Crafts Thickers (from last month's kit).

Again, June used the fabulous Crate Paper 'Portrait' collection as the base and layering of this delightful card.
