An 'Oops' Moment!

I had a bit of an 'Oops' moment on Tuesday when I emptied the washing machine and out tumbled my hubby's memory stick (with all his work stuff on) - Oops!!!  He had obviously left it in his jeans pocket (I usually check but in my defence I haven't been feeling too well the past few days), but this left me with a bit of a dilemma - confess or deny all knowledge!

I decided that honesty was the best policy and as soon as he came through the front door I 'fessed up.  Anyhow, he was brave enough to plug it into his laptop (think on - water and electricity!!!).

Question: can a memory stick survive a 45minute 40 degree wash cycle?

Answer: yes it can!

Phew! I don't know whether I was just lucky or whether there isn't really that much in these memory sticks that can be affected by water.

Warning: do not try this at home.

Just thought I would share this little moment with you as today is the last day to leave a comment for your chance to be entered into the blog candy draw.  Have you had a similar 'Oops Moment' - leave a comment to let me know.  Thanks for stopping by.  Pop back tomorrow to see who has been lucky enough to win the blog candy.

New Craft Tote!

I had a bit of a calamity at the last Mad Scrappers Club (scrapbook club I run), when the handle of my craft tote gave way under the strain of all the lovely goodies I cart around with me.

I have had my now tired looking tote for over 5 years, so I think I have had my moneys worth out of it!  I looked around online for a replacement and by chance joined an ebay auction for a new one - and I won!  This is what I bid for:

It's a Papermania design (I don't sell that brand) so I am not sure about the quality but the price was really reasonable.  Even though I have access to many manufacturers, not many that I deal with actually sell wheeled totes.  I will let you know how I get on with this new purchase once it has been delivered.

Has anyone else bought a wheeled craft tote from Papermania before?  If so, how has it faired after being lugged around?  Leave a comment to let me know and I will enter your name into the blog candy draw (see rules).  Thanks for stopping by.

Show - best sellers

The best sellers at Sunday's papercraft show is still Tando Creative products.  I completely sold out of the chipboard Cuckoo Clocks (I never seem to order enough!).  Another couple of best sellers are two of the fab new Andy Skinner Masks - Baroque and Skullduggery.

I must admit that Baroque is my favourite and I will be ordering this again!

I love the detail on this Skullduggery Mask - scary!

I think the 3" x 12" masks will be more popular with scrapbookers - love this owl one.

You can view all the new masks here.  Leave a comment to let me know which one you would most like to have - it may be one of the prizes in the blog candy for next month!

Thank you for taking the time to stop by.  Please leave a comment and you will be included in the blog candy draw for this month (see rules).

Rainton Meadows ... update

A warm 'thank you' to everyone who attended the Ross papercraft Show at Rainton Meadows Arena yesterday, despite the wintery conditions.

I wasn't feeling my best yesterday as I started with the fluey symptoms of a cold late on Saturday afternoon and this continued throughout Sunday.  I think the adrenelin kicks in because somehow you just get through it.  All the lovely customers do help of course!

Here are a few photo's of my stand:

Part of the stand showing the new Prima Engraver collection and Teresa Collins 6x6 paper pads.

Showcasing the fab Grace Taylor 12x12 albums - always a favourite!

Lots of ribbons and things in little baskets (everyone likes a rummage!).

The next Ross Papercraft Show (I will be attending) is at Nissan, Sunderland on 19th May.  Other traders will be with Ross papercraft Show at Doncaster on 6th April and then Hull on 12th May.  If you live in any of these areas, pop along.  The price has been kept to £2.00 entry and usually there are at least 30 trade stands at each event.  Check Ross papercraft home page for further details of a show near you here.

Thanks for stopping by today.  Leave a comment and if you qualify I will enter your name into the blog candy draw.  Draw will take place on 1st March (not long now).

Valletta

This is the first layout I have created using one of the photographs of our recent trip to Valletta, Malta.

I used patterned papers from the new Teresa Collins 'Far and Away' Collection pack.  I used Bazzill 'Kraft' cardstock for the base and the banners are from the co-ordinating die-cut cardstock accessories sheet that you get in the pack, as is the journal card.

The 'Say it in Crystal' black arrowheads are from Prima.  I added some faux stitching around the edge of the layout, around the edges of the banner shapes and also on the patterned paper to add more detail.  The date stamp is a Delish Design rub-on and the title is made from some brush letter stickers from my own stash.

This paper pack is what we are going to use at the next scrapbooking day I have organised for March, along with a Basically Bare Album (to create lots of holiday memories).  If you leave a comment on this post and you are a blog follower, I will enter your name into the blog candy draw.  Thank you for taking the time to stop by.

CREATE Banner

Just wanted to share with you this gorgeous 'CREATE' Banner made by my daughter Joanne.

A few close-ups of the individual banner pieces:

Using Tando Creative Double Scalloped Banner and a selection of patterned papers from Echo Park Mini Theme kit called 'Hello Spring' Joanne added Tando Creative chipboard letters to spell the word 'CREATE'.

On this banner piece Joanne has added some Tando Creative chipboard butterflies, decorated with the patterned papers and little pearl gems.

The little chipboard bird is from Tando Creative also.

Thanks to Joanne for sharing this with us.  Another crafty idea for a Mother's Day pressie or birthday, or anniversary or just because!

3 Clocks in One

Another fab release from Tando Creative - due in stock on Friday is this chipboard trio.

3 clock faces in1 that are cut from sturdy 2250micron greyboard - just ready for those paints, inks, mists or whatever you want to throw at them.  Overall size of the largest face is approx. 294mm x 294 mm.

I have been buying from Tando Creative for a number of years now and I have to admit that their chipboard is second to none in terms of quality and style.  Have you ever bought Tando Creative products - are they available where you live?  Leave a comment to let me know and I will enter your name into the blog candy draw.  See rules that apply.  Thanks for stopping by.

Mother's Day - another idea!

Another idea for a handmade gift for Mother's Day is one of the fabulous little Tando Creative chipboard handbags.  They start out life as a blank canvas (similar to the clocks):

And there are loads of possibilities in covering them - here are a few I made earlier:

I covered this one with Glitz Design 'Cashmere Dame' patterned papers.

This one was made using Glitz Design 'Pretty in Pink' patterned papers.

On this little beauty I used Prima 'Alla-Prima' patterned papers.

Each little handbag is different but I used the same chipboard base on each one.  Just think - you can add any gift (another handmade one perhaps) - think candles, chocolates, bath products .... just use your imagination!  This is another very personal gift - just to show you care.

What would you add to this little handbag to give a personal touch for your Mother?  Leave a comment on this post today and if you qualify I will enter your name into the blog candy draw.  Thanks for popping by.

Mother's Day - Gift Ideas

Mother's Day is fast approaching!  What are you going to give your Mother this year?  The usual flowers, chocolates or take her out for her lunch?    Any of these would be appreciated but just think how she would feel if you gave her a hand-made (by you) gift this year.

I know that many of you already make your own cards and they are very special in their own right but what about the present itself!

What about making her one of the gorgeous chipboard clocks from Tando Creative?  They can be made to your own deisgn and colours - you literally have a blank canvas to work with.  This is one I made a while ago using the Cuckoo Clock design:

It started out life as this chipboard kit:

As you can see - there are several different ways in which you could decorate this clock to suit your Mother's own personal taste.  It has a clock mechanism included, so it is functional as well as pretty.  The good thing is that it will be totally unique - just like your Mother!

Let me know if you make presents for your Mother on Mother's Day and what you make.  For every comment left, I will enter your name into the blog candy draw (if you qualify - see rules).  Thank you for taking the time to stop by today.

Ross Papercraft Show @ Rainton Meadows

The next Ross Papercraft Show I will be attending is at Rainton Meadows Arena, Houghton-le-Spring, Tyne & Wear, DH4 5PH on Sunday 24th February 2013.  We will be there between 10.00 a.m. - 3.00 p.m.

As usual from 11.00 a.m. there will be a prize draw every hour of a £20.00 voucher (until 2.00 p.m. - last draw). This is given by the organisers - Ross Papercraft and the vouchers must be spent the same day at the Show (what a hardship!).

There is free parking at the event and all tickets this year are only £2.00 each (under 16 years are free).  There is hot and cold refreshments available on site and the Arena is wheelchair friendly.  The organisers inform me that there are 35 stands booked for this show - fantastic value for only £2.00!

As usual, I am offering the 'Buy online and pick up at Show' facility for all customers attending this show.  This facility allows you to buy what you want online (even clearance lines and special offers that aren't available at the Show), pay via PayPal or pay at the show - the choice is yours.  To do this you must register as a customer on The Scrapbook Garden shop, make your purchases, opt to pay by PayPal or use 'cheque' if you want to pay at the Show.  Use the 'pick up at store' option to ensure that you don't get charged for postage.  Please order by 12.00 noon on Friday 22nd February to ensure that your order can be processed in time.

This is usually a very, very busy Show and to use this method ensures that you get the products that you want.  I hope to see many of my usual customers there as well as meeting lots of new ones!  See you on Sunday 24th February!

DT: Special Girl

I think it is very fitting that Jules has used Mojo (her precious dog) on this final layout ever for The Scrapbook Garden blog using this month's DT Kit.

Using the white cardstock from the kit as the base, Jules has layered up using patterned papers 'Tokens' and 'Labeled' along with some of the 'Tape Stickers' to create this layout.

Jules added the tiny hearts design to her layout by using a homemade template and the Ranger Distress Ink Pad.  She made the template by using left over cardstock and a heart punch.  Sentiments were added from the 'Labeled' patterned paper and alphabet stickers were added to complete the title.

Further details can be found on Jules blog at www.scrappingmojo.blogspot.com  I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jules and Jaqi for giving us some fantastic layouts and projects during their time on the Design Team and wish them both well for the future.

DT: Let it Snow

This very apt second layout from Jules this month is created using this month's DT Kit of Fancy Pants 'The Good Life' patterned papers, co-ordinating cardstock and Ranger Distress Ink Pad in Peacock Feathers.

Jules used white cardstock as the base for this layout and used the Ranger Distress Ink Pad to add a background using a stamp from her own stash.

The photographs were added onto 'Labeled' patterned paper and some of the 'Tape Stickers' and labels and sentiments from the 'Labeled' patterned paper were added.  The title was stamped using black ink and the Ranger Distress Ink Pad in Peacock Feathers.  Further details can be found on Jules blog at www.scrappingmojo.blogspot.com

DT: Fun on the Ice

This is the first of three layouts created by Jules using this month's DT Kit of Fancy Pants patterned paper, co-ordinating cardstock and Ranger Distress Ink Pad in Peacock Feathers.

Using Bazzill Aqua cardstock as the base, Jules has layered this up with 'Tokens' patterned paper, a strip of 'Labeled' patterned paper and a piece of 'Tokens' (reverse side), before adding some strips from the 'Tape Stickers' (extra to kit).

Jules coloured some arrows with the Ranger Distress Ink Pad and added alphabet stickers for her title to finish.  Further details can be found on Jules' blog at www.scrappingmojo.blogspot.com

My Shy Girl

Usng this month's DT kit of patterned papers from Fancy Pants 'The Good Life', co-ordinating cardstock and a Ranger Distress Ink Pad in Peacock Feathers, I have created this second layout.

I used Bazzill Aqua cardstock for the base and using a Tando Creative Hearts Background Mask and a Ranger Distress Ink Pad in Peacock Feathers added the little hearts design to the card.

This design was based on another of the PDQ pages in February/March edition of Scrap365 magazine (page 53) by Rebekah Day.  This layout really took me out of my comfort zone as I have used very little patterned paper (and no layers - apart from the photo mat).  This design reminds me of my very first layouts when I used to use cardstock as the main focus of my designs.

I added some tiny little punched hearts from some corrugated card, canvas sheet and black Dotted Swiss Pepper cardstock.  The little wooden heart buttons tied with string are from my own stash and the title and added sentiment is from Carta Bella 'Happy Little Moments' Element Stickers Sheet.

Overall, I am pleased with the finished layout as it matches the simplicity of the photograph.  If you leave a comment on this post today and you are a follower of this blog, I will enter your name into the blog candy draw.

Drop by tomorrow to see the first of three layouts created by Jules Dix (DT Member).  It will be Jules' final layouts, so don't miss those.

Symi

This is the last month of the DT Kit and the end of the Design Team (ah!).   The whole idea behind the DT was to showcase products that everyone could buy in The Scrapbook Garden shop.  Since June last year the DT have been creating layouts for the monthly Mad Scrappers Club.

From March, as we now have a full compliment of members, there will be no excess kits to buy from The Scrapbook Garden shop and the kit will be exclusively for members.

This final DT kit contains patterned papers from Fancy Pants called 'The Good Life' - Tokens, Labeled.  The cardstock colours are White, Aqua and Dotted Swiss Pepper (black).  This month's technique is using a Ranger Distress Ink Pad called Peacock Feathers.

This is the full reveal of the first sneaky peek I gave you last month and is called 'Symi:

I used one of the PDQ layouts from February/March edition of Scrap365 Magazine, which is in a brand new format this month.  This layout is based on Morag Cutts 'Love This' layout on page 55.

Using the patterned papers and cardstock from the DT kit and using a photograph of an island in Greece called 'Symi' I created this layout for this month's club.

I made a canvas journal card using some canvas sheet from a previous DT kit from June of last year.  I needed to create a couple of layouts fairly quickly and using ideas from this section of the magazine I was able to achieve this fairly easily.

When stuck for ideas or even in a hurry, scraplifting ideas is an excellent way to get your layouts done.  If you leave a comment on this post today (and you qualify) I will enter your name into the blog candy draw.  Thanks for stopping by today - pop back tomorrow and I will show you another layout I have done using this kit.

Petaloo: Fancy Trims

When I hear the name 'Petaloo' I immediately think of flowers!  They do make some fantastic flowers and now they have released some fab Fancy Trims.  Each pack contains 4 x 36 inch lengths of four different trims.

Each pack contains Rik Rak, Ribbon, Lace and Bobble Trim.  I have on order these lovely White Trims and these equally lovely Black Trims:

Ribbon, is one of the most versatile embellishments that we can use as adding it to any project instantly adds texture and volume and adds that luxurious finishing touch!

What would you use this product for?  Leave a comment on this post today and (if you qualify) I will enter your name into the blog candy draw.  Thanks for stopping by today.

DCWV: 6" x 6" packs

DCWV (Die cuts with a view) have some fab 6" x 6" packs out (and coming soon to The Scrapbook Garden).  This Twinkle Glints stack contains lovely black and white glittered patterned papers.  There are  24 sheets to each pack and are perfect for card makers, scrapbookers and for all mixed media projects.

This next 6" x 6" stack contains 15 sheets of adhesive backed cork sheets.  These are ideal to use in die-cutting machines to add some texture to all your projects.

Finally, I have on order this 6" x 6" adhesive fabric stack, which contains 24 sheets.  These all white, adhesive fabric paper pages are ideal to stamp on and to use in mixed media projects.

These 6" x 6" paper stacks are brand new to DCWV and are due in stock end of February/March time, so look out for those.

Do any of these 6" x 6" packs appeal to you?  As a scrapbooker I usually use 12" x 12" paper size but I have used 6" x 6" patterned paper on several layouts.  I especially love the cork sheets as I have used this medium before and it is very versatile.  As they are already adhesive backed there are no problems with finding the correct glues for your project.

Winter holiday!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by yesterday to leave a guess on where I have been for a short Winter break.  Those of you who guessed Malta are correct.  I said the photographs (especially the first one) were a giveaway as it was Valetta in Malta taken from a harbour cruise boat.

The middle photograph was of the entrance to the Grand Harbour in Valetta and the third photograph was taken in Sliema and is of a sculpture called 'Lill-Artisti Maltin'.  It is a ceramic sculpture of three of Malta's leading artists - Victor Apap, Charlie Chews and Gemma Portelli.  In this photograph they have a guest for tea:

I will be back tomorrow with my normal blog posts so you have more chances of leaving a comment and getting your name into the blog candy draw.  Thank you for taking the time to stop by.  See you tomorrow.

I'm back!

Apologies for my absence and lack of blog posts since Wednesday last week but I have been away on a winter break.

To make up for the loss of comment entries I am giving away 3 entries to everyone who correctly identifies where I have been by the photographs.  I think I have made it too easy ... but lets see.
