No quiz question today - back tomorrow to continue with that. I just wanted to say 'Thank You' so much to all the lovely people who attended the Ross Papercraft Show at Rainton Meadows, Houghton-Le-Spring, yesterday.

There was a fantastic turnout of crafters and I was overwhelmed at the number of people who stopped by my little shop to buy products or simply say 'hello'. I wasn't expecting too much, being January (people having no money until pay-day) and the fact the day wasn't very nice, weather wise. Anyway, they came in their droves and made the show.

A 'Thank You' too, to Terry, Mick and co. who organise these new shows - well done! The next one is on Sunday 11th March 2012 at Nissan, Sunderland. Hope to see you there if you live in the area.

SCHOOL TIME

This month's Scrapaholix Club Kit used the technique of resin roses and some Graphic 45 patterned papers, featuring a 'time theme'. When I saw the patterned papers, I just knew which photographs to use and make the layouts 'School Time'. The kit included Graphic 45 patterned papers called 'The Three R's' and 'Calico Kids' (which I also have in stock at the moment).

I used the black cardstock as the base, before using a Tando Creative Clock Mask and some Perfect Pearls Mist to create the background. I then cut a piece of 'The Three R's' paper (used reverse side) and adhered this to the left of the layout. I then matted the photograph onto the red card and some Graphic 45 patterned paper called 'Calico Kids' (used reverse side, which is striped). I cut two strips of paper from the two patterned papers and added them under the photograph. I added the resin roses, using some glossy accents to stick them to the paper and used My Mind's Eye Lush Chipboard Alphabet Stickers in black for the title. The journal strips were made by using some Kraft cardstock, to which I added text using my computer.

This second layout is very similar. I used the same technique to create the clock background (placing it slightly different to the previous layout) and used the opposite side of the papers.

CHICAGO - here I come!

I have to say before I go any further I am talking about Chicago the musical - not the place (more's the pity!). I am still excited at the prospect of going to see the musical though. This treat was one of many fab presents I got for Christmas.

It's on at The Sunderland Empire in March and as you can see from the advertising the line up includes: Ali Bastian, Stefan Booth, Tupele Dorgu and Bernie Nolan. Ali Bastian plays the part of Roxie Hart and Tupele (from Corrie) plays Velma Kelly. Stefan Booth (Eastenders) plays the part of Billy Flynn and Bernie Nolan is Mama Norton.

I must confess that I have never seen the film, so this will be the first time I have come across the story but I cannot wait as I love live theatre. Prima New Releases - Almanac

Prima have some absolutely fabulous ranges coming out soon. One that I think will be a massive hit is their range called 'Almanac', which is on the lines of the Printery Collection that was so popular last season. TIME please!

I love the theme of clocks on layouts as they represent an array of 'time periods', either present, past or visions for the future. It's what scrapbooking is all about really - capturing moments in time, whether very recent past, our historical past, the present day or even what we hope to achieve in the future. SMILE for the camera

I am busy trying to create some new layouts for the forthcoming Ross Papercraft Show at Rainton Meadows on 22nd January and realised that I didn't have any using the fab Authentique 'Gathering' paper collection. I always find that customers like to see the products 'made up' as it gives them more ideas on what to do when they buy the papers. I popped over to the Authentique blog for some inspiration (you lose your mojo a bit over the festive period) and found a gorgeous layout by Cristine Redmond called 'Little Miss Smiley'. I loved this layout so much that I actually recreated it using the same patterned papers for the matting of the photograph and the bunting.

I used Bazzill Kraft Cardstock for the base (as in the original) and added some paint effects using a paint brush and a Jennie Bowlin Paint Dabber (Chicken Feed). The Authentique 'Gathering' patterned papers used are Together, Flourish, Reminisce, Bloom and Harmony for the rosette. I used string for the banner as I didn't have any twine in a suitable colour. The buttons are from my own stash (from years ago!) and the title is made from American Crafts Thickers and Authentique Petite Type Square alphas in green.

Christmas Dinner

After creating the layout Santa's Little Helper the other day I decided to use some of the left over pieces of patterned paper to make another layout.

This is another Christmas themed layout using photos taken a few years ago. I used Authentique 'Wonder' range of patterned papers for the background (which I gutted, so not to waste any paper) and added strips left over from the previous layout. The chipboard sentiments are from Fabscraps but they co-ordinate beautifully with this paper range. They are also on sale at a ridiculous price at the moment (old stock to clear). I made the swirl on the Big Shot and added Prima flowers. Another fairly simple layout to add to the massive amount I already have!

In print again!

I have been lucky enough to have another one of my layouts printed in The Scrapbook Magazine. This time I scraplifted a layout from a previous edition and sent it in to the Editor. I was extremely surprised to have another layout printed in the magazine - fame at last! (only joking!).

This is the page from Issue 60 of the magazine (out in December 2010). It was displayed on page 46 of the magazine along with other readers layouts.

This is a close-up of the entry I submitted. It was quite an easy layout to scraplift and I loved the paint effect. I used some corrugated card - torn from a cardboard box and then I just added some paint and used it as a stamp. Why don't you try sending something that you have made to one of the craft magazines. I did this as part of the Papercraft Qualification I was doing last year, as part of the qualification was about getting your work printed.

Santa's Little Helper

As soon as I saw this photo Christmas card from my niece I knew that it would end up as a scrapbook page! It is a photograph of her son's first Christmas. I used the frame from the card as a starting point to the layout.

I used Bazzill French Vanilla cardstock as the base and added an oblong piece of Authentique Wonder collection patterned paper called 'Anticipation' (reverse side). I then added a strip of Authentique 'Curiosity' patterned paper (used the reverse side) along the right hand side of the layout towards the bottom of the oblong piece. I cut a circle from the 'Curiosity' patterned paper and adhered this on top.

As the photograph was already in a 'frame' from the Christmas card, I attached this on top of the patterned papers. The chipboard sentiments are from FabScraps and the title is made from American Crafts Thickers called Jewelry Box.

A quick and easy layout to make to ease myself back into scrapbooking. I feel I haven't done much scrapping for ages! Design Team: Advent Calendar

Yes, it's that time of year again when the Advent Calendars are out for Children (and adults too) to count down the days until Christmas.

Julia has made this gorgeous Advent Calendar by creating a 12" x 12" box that is made up of lots of smaller boxes for the construction. I suspect many hours of work went into this fab creation! She used Prima North Country patterned paper for the front of the calendar embellishing with flowers, snowflakes and Christmas Tree (cut from the papers). Each box has goodies inside and can be used year on year.

Design Team: Printer Tray

As part of her kit this month, Julia was given this Tando Creative Mini Printer Tray to decorate as a 'mini project'. Instead of using as a printer tray, Julia split it up to make a photo stand. She added extra chipboard to back two sections and used the Prima North Country patterned papers to cover and make flowers.

This is the finished creation ... stunning!

Design Team: Autumn Collage

Jules has created this fab home decor piece she has called 'Autumn Collage'. Using scraps of patterned paper left over from her kit (Authentique Gathering range) she adhered them to a 5" x 7" canvas board using matte multi medium. She then got messy with several paint dabbers using Tando Creative Masks (Leaves and Sequin Waste).

This is the result ... stunning!

Although I asked the Design Team to create 'off the page' projects I did allow them to create a couple of Christmas cards! Jaqi used the gorgeous Authentique patterned paper range to make these two lovely cards - very traditional!

Jaqi used Authentique Wonder patterned papers in Awe and Curiosity along with Bazzill Rain Forest and Ruby Slipper to create these cards. Once again a Tando Creative scalloped nested square has been used to frame the image of Father Christmas (stamps are Jaqi's own). She even had some Authentique Noteables left to add as sentiments! Another truly traditional trio from Jaqi today in the shape of these fab Wooden Blocks. The beautiful Authentique Wonder patterned papers are showcased wonderfully in this lovely trio. Julia created this lovely gift idea using Bazzill Kraft cardstock (12" x 12") to make a matchbox, which she covered using Prima North Country 'Maine Meadow' patterned paper. The flowers are Prima North Country Flower Market Collection, which co-ordinate beautifully with the patterned paper range.

Julia has created a section inside the box to house some notelets she made using Bazzill French Vanilla Cardstock. The notelets are all 3" x 3" and sit neatly in the box alongside some envelopes and sentiments.

Design Team: Golden Angel

Jaqi's Tando Creative chipboard project was to decorate one of their 3D Angels. The one I gave Jaqi is the small version and she has decorated it beautifully in lovely Christmassy colours!

Using a gold dabber, Jaqi covered alternate sides of the chipboard in gold paint. Then, using the beautiful 'Surprise' patterned paper from Authentique, covered the remaining sides. A lovely, vintage Christmas Angel - perfect!

Name Album

I promised the other day that I would show you what I did with that bare chipboard name album. I have made a start on it by covering it with some beautiful patterned papers from Authentique 'Gathering' collection.

I used Authentique Bloom (reverse side) for the letter 'L', Grow (reverse side) for the letter 'U', Together for the letter 'C' and Harmony for the letter 'Y'. I drew around the letters first, cut them out, stuck them on with a glue stick and then trimmed the edges with a Fiskars finger knife (I have had this for years and it is great). I then sanded the edges to get rid of any rough bits and then inked with an ink pad.

I haven't done much decorating of this album yet as I haven't decided on what photographs to use but I did add some lovely orange ribbon from Kuretake (from my own stash) to the last letter to add some texture without too much bulk.

I did make a start on the front cover (first letter) by using some My Mind's Eye rub-ons (Wild Asparagus), which consists of several swirls and leaves as well as as selection of different family words. I had some Prima Essentials 10 flowers in brown, which went perfectly with the colour scheme of this paper range and added some Prima pearls in the centres. The words precious girl are from the rub-ons sheet.

When the page is turned over (I covered this with some Authentique 'Grow' patterned paper) you can see that I have added some of the rub-on words from the MME Wild Asparagus sheet to describe the recipient. I am going to add the words 'Sister' and the phrase 'Some words to describe you' using SafMat and my computer.

Obviously, this is a work in progress and I will upload pages as and when I complete them. Hopefully, I aim to get this finished for Christmas to add in as another little gift.

Design Team: Bird House

Each member of the Design Team were given a Tando Creative chipboard project to complete as part of their challenge this month. Jules was given the Tando Creative 'Bird House' and some 'Mini Birds and Branches' along with the gorgeous Authentique 'Gathering' paper collection.

For her project Jules chose to use 'Harmony' (for the front of the bird house), 'Reminisce' (Shown on the back), and 'Together' (shown on the sides and (the reverse side) of this on the roof). How gorgeous is this?

The flowers are Prima 'North Country', which co-ordinate beautifully with this range also. The cute little bird is covered in Authentique 'Gathering' paper called 'Bloom' (reverse side).

Jules used some rub-ons from My Mind's Eye (Bloom and Grow), which just happen to co-ordinate really well with this paper range.

Design Team: Sweetie Bags

Julia must have been reading my mind when she created these gorgeous 'sweetie bags'. I had thought of decorating some empty little flower tubs to add sweets to as a Christmas gift idea but these are so much better!

Using cellophane bags, Julia filled them with different varieties of sweets and used the Prima North Country 'Red Deer' and 'Snow Fall' patterned papers to create the tabs for the tops of the bags. She then embellished them with some Christmas sentiments. The two cartons are created using the same patterned papers and filled with sweets. A very simple idea but they make a lovely gift. Just think of all the alternatives you could add (not just sweets).

Design Team: Advent Drawers

Jaqi created this fab Advent Drawers project using patterned papers from the Authentique Christmas Collection called 'Wonder'. The papers she used are called 'Expectation' and 'Surprise'. The base is made from a Tando Creative Scalloped Nested Square (which come in a pack of 3 different sizes), and Jaqi used the largest one.

Bazzill cardstock in Ruby Slipper was also used on the base. Authentique Noteables were used to add the words - 'Santa', 'Hope', 'Jolly' and 'Celebrate'.

Christmas 6" x 6" Album

I have been wanting to make a mini album with the fabulous Authentique Christmas Collection called 'Wonder' since I first saw the range. It is a gorgeous collection of traditional style patterned papers that all work beautifully together. I decided on a 6" x 6" size chipboard album and I used 3 Bugs in a Rug chipboard book to make it.

I chose Anticipation, Awe, Expectation and Surprise to create this little lovely. You can make it with 3 sheets of paper but I used the Surprise patterned paper as well to add as embellishments. I also used the Authentique Noteables to add little sentiments within the pages. I used Kanban 'Festive Bling' on each page but otherwise kept the design simple as not to overpower the photos (when they are added). The idea was to either make the album up before Christmas and add the photographs later or give as a present (I haven't decided yet).

Here is the completed album featuring number 1 'Tis the Season' from the Surprise patterned sheet. I made a rosette (surprise, surprise) and added one of the words from the Noteables.

On pages 2 and 3 I added the numbers again (and some bling) . I made the number 3 into a tag and added some (paper) ribbon from scraps left over from another sheet of the papers. This is the back page of the album:

Mind you this is a first for me as I am usually full of good intentions but don't quite get there. I think the Design Team have put me to shame coming up with all the lovely goodies that they have created, that I thought I had better get a move on and make something. Christmas Gift Idea!

I know there are lots of Christmas gift ideas around at the moment but one I thought of was a personalised scrapbook album. Personalised because it spells the name of the recipient. Tando Creative do some lovely chipboard albums that I have previously covered with lovely patterned papers (and shown on this blog). I have another one which is just crying out to be completed:

They start out in life looking like this and because they are a lovely chipboard weight they can take most things that you can throw at them. I have decided to cover this one in the brand new Authentique patterned papers called 'Gathering' as they are a beautiful combination of colours and would cover this album perfectly. Design Team: Bird House Tree Decoration

For Jaqi's second project this month she has created this wonderful Bird House Tree Decoration made with Bazzill cardstock in Vanilla and Ruby Slipper and patterned papers from the Authentique 'Wonder' collection called 'Expectation'.

The flowers are from Prima Flower Market 'North Country' range, which co-ordinates beautifully with this patterned paper range. She made the holly and berries from Bazzill cardstock (Ruby Slipper and Rain Forest) and added some ribbon from her own stash. Design Team: Home Decor - Butterfly Frame

Jules has made a lovely home decor piece for her first project this month. She used a photo frame and removed the glass then added some Bazzill Bitter Chocolate to the back of the frame for the base. Using patterned papers from the Authentique 'Gathering' collection, she cut butterflies using her Cuttlebug, layering each patterned paper together. They were then sewn together before being added to the base.

Jules added a sentiment from the Authentique Excerpts sheet to the bottom of the butterflies to finish. The colours in this patterned paper collection are lovely and rich and are shown perfectly in this creation.

Design Team: Christmas Wreath

Julia has created this fab Christmas Wreath using a chipboard circle as the base. She covered it with the gorgeous Prima 'North Country' collection patterned papers called 'In the House' and 'Snow Fall'.

Julia has used the 'In the House' papers for the leaves (cutting each one by hand with deckle scissors), spritzed with water and concertinaed to get the wrinkled effect. The flowers were cut from the 'Snow Fall' papers and pearls, beads, glitter and ribbons were added.

The remit of the Design Team this month was to use the kit contents to create home decor or gift ideas. Jaqi is first up this month with this lovely 'J' (for Jaqi of course), which would be fab for a gift idea or even your own home!

For this project Jaqi used a wooden letter 'J' and covered this with Authentique 'Wonder' collection patterned papers 'Curiosity' and 'Expectation. The flowers she has added are Prima Flower Market 'North Country'. This idea would look just as good spelling out the word 'Noel' for a home decor piece for Christmas.

Year 6

This is the second layout I have created using the Scrapaholix Kit for November. For this layout I added a sheet of Dovecraft 'Bordeaux' cardstock (as there was only 1 sheet of wine coloured card in the kit) and I wanted to do two pages about Jamie's journey through the junior school.

I used the reverse side of the patterned paper called 'Home Sweet Home' from the Simple Stories 'Generations' collection for the main part of the patterned background. As the technique this month is 'distressing', I used a paper tearer to create a ragged edge on one side of the paper and then inked it using the Color Box Chalk Ink in Dark Moss. I used the front of the same patterned paper in a strip across the bottom of the page, which I distressed as before.

Out came the Big Shot and that Tim Holtz Rosette die once again (I love this instead of adding flowers to male layouts as it is not so feminine) and I made two rosettes out of the same paper. I made two side banners and added some buttons (with string in the middle) for texture. I cut a circle tag from some kraft cardstock and added some string to finish.

Design Team Challenge for November

The DT Challenge for this month is to use the products in the kit to create 'Scrapbooking off the page'. By this I mean is no 12" x 12" layouts but anything else goes. They have been asked to keep card creations to a minimum and use their creative skills to come up with ideas for crafters to make either gifts or home decor projects using patterned papers and cards. They have also been given a mini 'project' in the form of some Tando Creative chipboard. Each DT member has something different to make.

Each DT member also has different patterned paper collections to showcase. Jaqi has the gorgeous Authentique 'Wonder' papers, Julia the equally gorgeous Prima 'North Country' range and Jules the brand new Authentique 'Gathering' collection.

School Days

The Scrapaholix Kit technique this month is 'distressing' using some fab patterned papers from Simple Stories. I used a sheet of cardstock in wine (gutted it first so I could use the middle bit to mat the photo) and added some cream cardstock on top to create the base.

Before I added the Simple Stories Generations patterned paper (called 'Always and Forever'), I distressed the edges, using sand paper in a sanding grip (Tim Holtz). I then ran scissors along the edges to tear it slightly before inking with an Color Box chalk ink pad in Dark Moss (also in the kit).

I added some banners cut from the same paper (reverse side) to which I added buttons and string. I cut two rosettes using my latest acquisition in the form of the Tim Holtz Alterations mini Paper Rosettes Die (which I love). The letters 'S', 'D' and 'J' are Urban Rhapsody die-cut stickers from K & Co. The remainder of the title is typed onto Safmat (another of my favourite products).

7 weeks to ... Christmas!

I can't believe it is only 7 weeks to Christmas this weekend! Where does the time go? I start off quite early every year and try to get presents in ahead so that I don't have to have a mad scramble on the days up to Christmas. I have made a start this year but I think this last month has been so busy that the time has just flew by.

The weather in the North East hasn't been too bad (fingers crossed it stays that way) and at times has been quite warm seeing that we are in November now. I hope we don't get a repeat of last year's snow for weeks on end. I like the snow in small spurts - you know the kind that comes down on Christmas Eve and melts by Boxing Day! I know I am sounding like a bah humbug but I really love Christmas and the snow together but not for weeks on end.

Traditional Christmas colours!

For Christmas cards the traditional colours are always a favourite for many. For the recent papercrafts show Joanne made some Christmas card samples up for me using more of the Prima North Country patterned papers.

As well as using the Prima North Country patterned papers, Joanne also used the Tando Creative 'Wonky Trees' chipboard shapes, which she inked and added small pearls to. The topper on the other card is from 'Forest Notes' patterned sheet, which co-ordinates with all the papers in the range.

Blue Christmas

I've always liked the alternative colours of blue and white for Christmas cards. The traditional colours of red and green will always be popular but there is something lovely and modern about this blue combination for Christmas projects.

The perfect partner

I think one of the hardest things about making a scrapbook layout is deciding on what to have as the background. Most of the time I start with a sheet of Bazzill cardstock (or similar) then make up the layout from there. Occasionally, I see some patterned paper that I like for my background layout and use that but mostly it is the trusted cardstock that I start with.
The most used cardstock colours are probably black and white but there is another shade of this fantastic cardstock that outsells all and that is French Vanilla.

This cardstock shade is my biggest seller and I am not surprised! It is a subtle shade of cream that goes with almost anything. Unlike white, it is not as stark and cold. It gives the background of your project a warmer feel but is still light enough to mix with an array of brighter colours. I have tried this colour next to the brand new Authentique 'Gathering' collection (new in yesterday) and it goes a treat! Obviously, everyone has their own favourite colours - let me know yours by leaving a comment.

This gorgeous creation shows the beautiful papers off to perfection! I can't wait to get my hands on this range as the colours are absolutely perfect for autumn layouts as well as being suitable for a number of other projects too. First Edition Paper Pads

I have just uploaded the details on the website shop of two brand new paper pads from First Edition. This is a new product line for me and I must say they are gorgeous!. I decided on the 8" x 8" size as they are the most usable size for both card makers and scrapbookers. The first one is called Isabelle and is a beautifully detailed floral paper pad with delicate designs in dusky blues, antiqued creams and rich chocolate brown colours. It's a charming and timeless collection of papers which, will last through all the seasons.

Half-term holidays

I hope those of you with children (and those who are minding other people's children) this week aren't too stressed out! It is a difficult thing at times to keep children amused for all the hours they would normally be in school. It can be quite expensive too to take them out, even just for a snack at lunchtime as a treat (and to get them out the house for a few hours).

The weather is always a factor when deciding on what you can do during the week. If it is fairly dry there are always local parks (but that only works with smaller children in my experience). There are local skate parks that older children use for their skateboards and the latest craze of (what we used to call) scooters!
If your children like making things (and most do) I am sure that the more 'crafty' of parents can call upon a multitude of ideas of things to make to while away the hours. I think when you are making things with the children it is nice to have a theme to work towards and that way they don't think you are just trying to occupy them (which you are of course) for a few hours.

Of course, Halloween is just around the corner and it would be a perfect time to get them to help you arrange some decorations, party invitations etc., for the day (or should I say night!). Looking through my gallery on the website, I found these Halloween little makes that Joanne (my daughter) made a couple of years ago.

They are quite easy to make with any Halloween patterned paper (or even just black, orange and purple card) and once you start the ideas will just flow. Gateshead Show

Thank you to everyone who came to the Gateshead show and made the event a very successful first for Purely Papercrafts. I took a few photographs of the stand space I had at the show. Saturday was definitely the best day (even if a bit manic!) as Sunday was a more relaxed affair.

I always display lots of scrapbook layouts as people like to get ideas of what to do on their scrapbook pages. Even non-scrapbookers always seem to enjoy having a look. One lady said in all her years of going to craft shows, I was the only one who displayed scrapbook pages in this way! I know there are always loads of cards on display and I think displaying the layouts this way makes the area look a bit like an art gallery - it is always very colourful anyhow.

Very Busy day at Gateshead!

Just a quick update on the first day of the show at Purely Papercrafts at Gateshead. It has been a really busy day today and loads of people attended this show, which is a new venue as previous shows were held at Newcastle Metro Arena.

It is a very long and tiring day preparing, serving customers, re-stocking etc., but it is worth it to meet all the lovely crafters who attend these shows. I love it so much that I'm doing it all again tomorrow!

I did manage to take a few photos and will upload those within the next few days. Purely Papercrafts

The next show I will be attending is a brand new show called Purely Papercrafts at Gateshead International Stadium on 22nd and 23rd October 2011. This venue has been refurbished and improved to a very high standard. It has ample free and disabled car parking and is all on ground floor level.

I am informed that there is an excellent and reasonably priced cafeteria as you enter, which will be open from 9.00 a.m. both mornings serving drinks, light snacks, cakes etc. The show is being held in the main Sports Hall and will have exhibitor stands, demonstrations, displays by guilds and a full timetable of workshops.

Anyone attending, who would like to order on-line and pick up their order at the show can place orders up until Thursday evening. Any orders placed after that cannot be processed in time. If you would like to use this facility, use the 'pick up at store' option, which gives free postage and you will save money as well as ensuring that you get the products you want. Christmas Tags

After making the Christmas card, which I posted on the blog yesterday, I decided to make some Christmas embellishments with some of the off-cuts. The papers used were from the new Authentique 'Wonder' collection, Bazzill cardstock in French Vanilla and Rain Forest. The noteables (words) are also from the Authentique range.

I made the Christmas stocking tag using a Bazzill Chip (available in singles as well as packs of 3). I covered this with the patterned paper (reverse side is a green gingham) and then added the stocking top piece cut from the front of the patterned paper. I add the 'Santa' word from the noteables sheet and added some Bazzill Pom Poms trim.

The tag is cut on the Cricut, firstly in Rain Forest cardstock, then in the patterned paper, which was adhered on top to give a layered effect. If you cut this on the Cricut, cut the cardstock in shadow and the patterned tag in the same size (without the shadow). This gives you that shadow effect on the tag. I used one of the rosettes left over from yesterday and added the word 'Celebrate' from the Authentique noteables sheet. I added some string to give a more vintage look to the tags. These could be used as embellishments on scrapbook pages, on top of cards or just as ... tags!

'Tis the Season to be Jolly

On my own admission, I am not much of a cardmaker - not that I hate hand-made cards, far from it, but I love scrapbooking too much. Anyhow, once I saw the new 'Wonder' collection from Authentique and looked on their blog for inspiration, I decided to make one!!!

The design is taken from an idea on the blog of a tag, which had rosettes on. I have only just bought the Tim Holtz Rosette die, so thought this was meant to be.

I chose the Authentique 'Wonder' Curiosity two-sided paper as one side has a lovely array of pattern on it and the other side is a green and cream gingham. I used Bazzill French Vanilla as the card base as I wanted to use some of the off-cuts to create one of the rosettes and to mat the sentiment. I matted the patterned paper with Bazzill Rain Forest Cardstock, made my rosettes with the French Vanilla card and some of the patterned paper. I cut the A4 card on one side, so that I could put a strip of the gingham paper down along the inner of the card.

I added some Festive Bling from Kanban (self-adhesive craft gems) and matted the sentiment (from the Authentique Noteables Elements) onto the Rain Forest card and then the French Vanilla card, before adhering to the card itself.

The two rosettes were added to finish off the design. I love this die as it is so easy to use and you make perfect rosettes every time. All materials (except the Tim Holtz die) are available from The Scrapbook Garden website shop.

Making Memories to the rescue!

Following on from yesterday's post - thank you for all your suggestions and comments. I emailed Making Memories customer services and said that the postal rates were really expensive and they emailed me back to say they have sent me a replacement (free of charge - including the postage). Now that is what I call 'customer service'.

I may just try and struggle on for next week as the week after is half-term holidays and hopefully by then the replacement plastic ruler will have arrived. We have a saying (up North) "Shy bairns get nowt", which roughly translates to "people don't get anything unless they ask" - which is very true in this case (although I didn't actually ask for them to send it to me free of charge!). So, the moral of this story is that if you have a problem with anything that you have bought - contact the customer services and if you ask nicely, they may do the same for you.

Decisions, decisions!

I have used the Making Memories paper trimmer for a number of years now, for personal use and for teaching scrapbooking classes, as I love the way you can cut your papers to the size you want relatively easily. At the moment I have a bit of a dilemma in that one of (the 2) paper trimmers I have is 'out of action' in that the plastic ruler that runs across the trimmer has snapped.

This may be years of use or simply inexperienced hands using the trimmer incorrectly (or a combination of both I suspect). Anyhow, I have contacted Making Memories (in the U.S.A.) to find a replacement. They do replacement plastic rulers for this cutter at $1.99 but the postage to the UK is something like $39. They have offered (most kindly) to find a solution to shipping this to me in the UK without me paying this shipping cost. In the meantime, I need to find a replacement that is not too costly, cuts 12"x12" papers and card and isn't too fragile for inexperienced hands to use. Any suggestions?

I love this range as I think the colours are so versatile. They are obviously very autumnal colours but also I think they are suitable for male layouts and some vintage layouts too.
